No and the fact that we have to talk about it is a sad state of affairs.

Cruising through the internet you might be walking away with bad ideas of what Attack on Titan is. I want to address the worst one that I have seen so far, the idea that the Eldians are connected with real world Jews. I understand that some might not be able to separate reality from fiction but there are important distinctions to be made between fiction and reality. 

I can also see why there might be confusion in the first place when you analyze some of the base facts: 

Eldians have to wear armbands. 

Eldians are locked into a ghetto. 

Eldians are treated as an evil race. 

Of course these are reminiscent of treatment that Jews had received during Hitler’s Germany during the second world war. I am glad that people can see parallels between the two. Hurray you can connect dots between the two. So where does the confusion come? Why are people comparing the two? 

I couldn’t say exactly why, but people seem to forget that other races and peoples have been put into internment/holding/re-education camps. No matter the names that evil might associate with those types of places, they are still evil. It even happens in the modern day. While people like to congratulate themselves because they are bashing the ghosts of past evil, most tend to ignore the evil staring them in the face. It’s not the same  

If we are looking historically Japanese-American citizens were locked away during the second world war. A main justification that was used is they were spying on behalf of the evil Japanese empire. They could also sabotage American operations during the war. Due process clearly denied, an entire race was being treated like they were the enemy. Also the Japanese-American citizens were also given a chance to prove their loyalty to America by being allowed to fight against Germans in Europe. And yes while Pearl Harbor was a horrific event, the overreach was a clear mistake. 

In modern times there are also instances of re-education camps, destroying cultural and racial entities that are in opposition to the ruling factions. Look no further than China for a modern example. If you are looking for genocide take a look into Myanmar. All of these are evil.

There are many examples both historically and happening right now. 

The truth is that Eldian treatment happens all over the world, in different ways and different times. The ability of humanity to isolate the other, and deny their humanity is not just a one off. It’s a sickening part of human psychology. The way to find blame with others that aren’t like you, and use them for your own political purposes is sick. After all it’s easier to blame others for your own failures. Exploitation of the other is constant and cyclical. 

Instead of looking at a singular example of history in the past that the history books are happy to tell you (sweeping their own sins under the rug), take a look at the bigger picture. Try to understand that not everything is about the Jews. Try to appreciate that through art you might learn more about yourself, humanity, or consider ideas you never had before. 

So please keep telling me how the Eldians are Jews, and keep turning a blind eye to everything else. I’ll be here.
