Crowd Sourcing Ideas: I Wrote a Light Novel. What can I do with it?

Hello friends and fellow bloggers,

I know this is a bit outside of my anime blogging, but I like to write stories on the side. I have a folder of many ideas that are unwritten. I am confident I am not alone here. I have managed to finish a book of around light novel length, a little over 42,000 words. I have started the second light novel but haven’t gotten terribly far into it. As an aside, I have had this project on hold for around 2 years.

What can I do with a light novel? Is there somewhere I can publish it online that wouldn’t cost me anything? It doesn’t even necessarily have to be an e-book. I don’t need to actually earn money from it. My day job covers my living expenses.

Looking at the publishing landscape online I have no idea what to even do with it. There are so many options and I don’t feel like any of them speak to me or what I want to do. Ideally I am looking for a third party platform, along the lines of webtoons, where you can just submit anything to a general audience.

I was hoping that there might be answers or good options that I haven’t been able to find. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate any tips or advice.

  1. Right now, the world is your oyster! I think your main options are to either independently publishing it as a book or release it as a web novel. Lots of the big light novels started life as a web novel.

    Independent publishing can be done through Amazon and several of the big book stores directly. You can also use a distributor like Draft2Digital. The least hassle might be to do it on Amazon and enrol in the kindle select program.

    For web novels there are a number of platforms you can use and you can potentially use all of them. Best to look at what genres do well where and follow that. You can also release the web novel on your blog if you want.
